We have two different types of summer camps at Camp Otto: our immersion learning programs and our traditional summer camps. Each session is one week in length(although some might choose to attend consecutive sessions), and although geared toward homeschoolers, all are welcome to attend. The summer sessions are offered for eight weeks, starting June 6, 2008 and ending in August, 2008. The programs are described below:
Immersion Learning Programs
Immersion learning is a program where the child is immersed in the subject completely. What this means is that all aspects of the subject are participated in, and all activities revolve around the subject matter, including food. The homeschool groups are more familiar with the term “Unit Study” to describe this type of learning. It is a very hands-on way of learning about an area of interest. Our resources allow you to take that unit study to the next level. Learn more
Specialty Camps
Our specialty camps are designed around a basic theme just as our immersion learning programs are, but these programs are more recreational in nature. While focusing on a particular area of interest, children can take their knowledge levels to new heights. The main difference between these camps and the immersion learning camps is the lack of historical content. Children still pursue interests, but without assuming the role of a historical figure, or acting out a historical time period. Learn more about Specialty Camps scheduled for the 2008 season.
