Family Camps at Camp OttoOur family camps allow loved ones to come together with the purpose of growing and learning new skills and communicative styles.  Based on the research findings of our Camp Director/Owner, these camps are formulated with the purpose of allowing families to learn new skills that will help them form a stronger bonds, and share an unparalleled connection.  These sessions are each unique in purpose and nature, meeting the needs of families with many different purposes and goals.  Whether your family is struggling to connect in a fast-paced world, or you are looking for a family vacation that will have something for everyone, there is a family camp for you.  For the 2008 season we will be offering family camps on the following topics:

  Outdoor Living Skills
This camp focuses on the basics of outdoor living and survival.  Families are able to learn together in a group and team setting.  You will learn basic survival skills, shelter building, identification and preparation of edible foods, conservation, animal identification, tracking, and more.  Our Outdoor Living program takes place in September.  It is a three day program and requires overnight stays.  The program includes all instruction, use of our facilities, sleeping quarters, and food for your entire stay.  This program requires advance booking and prior approval from the Camp Director before enrollment.  The entire family is welcome, but must be prepared to participate in all activities.

Fishing Camps

This camp is a one day program offered to families twice a year.  During your stay, you will boat, fish, prepare, and eat your catch.  Those who are inexperienced will learn all the ins and outs of the sport, and those who are avid fishermen can enhance their knowledge and expertise.  This is meant to be a family activity, and is not just for Fathers and Sons.

Nature Camp
Many of us spend time admiring the beauty of the natural world, but we do not know much about it.  The purpose of nature camp is to learn about the natural world while participating in activities that can be shared as a family, even outside of Camp Otto.  This program takes place over the course of three days.  During your stay, you will learn about all aspects of nature that are represented at the camp.  Many of these same facets of nature can be found throughout Indiana.  You will spend time in the woods, and the water, both in the during the day and at night.

Geology
Geology is a fascinating science, and impacts our world in so many ways.  We intend to immerse you in all there is to know and do regarding this fascinating subject.  A hike on our creek trails, some unearthing of geologic forms, identification of common and unique rocks and what they are made from, are just a few of the things that you will learn after spending a day with us.  This camp takes place over two days and requires one overnight stay.

Parenting Workshops
Parenting can be a tricky business.  There are many ups and downs that one cannot anticipate, no matter how hard we may try.  These workshops are to help you address your concerns, and anticipate what may arise in the coming years.  Focused on those who homeschool, or those considering the option, these workshops take place over a three day period of time.  This is a parenting workshop.  You may bring your children, but they will not be in class with you.  They will be properly supervised in other activities throughout the camp with our staff.

Family Unity
Family unity is so important in this day and age, but seems to be a lost art.  This is one workshop about parenting and family where the children are welcome.  In fact, the entire two day session is about family.  We will try to help you and your children get to the next level in communication and sharing so that you are never worried that you cannot connect.  You will participate in team building activities and trust excercises, as well as other activities the camp has to offer.  This is one that you will be referring back to for years.

Astronomy
The view from Camp Otto is breathtaking.  It is so brilliant that sometimes it doesn’t seem real.  This program allows you to experience the sky in a different light.  You will spend large amounts of time outdoors both during the day and night, learning all about the heavens.  We will also touch upon historical aspects of astronomy that are significant to what we know today.  There are many hands on activities in this program that might appeal to people of all ages.  This is a good first-time camp experience for younger ones.

Grand-Camp
Why should you have to stop experiencing the joys of camp when you get older?  We don’t think you should.  Grand Camp is a special bonding experience for children and their grandparents.  It is a time where you can share as many activities as you are able with the children you love so dearly.  It is a great time to get to know those children on a whole new level, while having fun.  You will boat, fish, hike, read, look at the stars, talk, sing, roast marshmallows, play games, and enjoy the world around you, together.  It will be a time you won’t want to miss.
